Tekashi 6ix9ine contemplated suicide during his stint behind bars for his role in the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, opened up about his jailhouse struggles in a sit-down with Fox 5 News Reporter Lisa Evers.
“The pressure is so strong,” said the 24-year-old rapper, born Daniel Hernandez. “Mentally, I think people would have attempted suicide. At a point in jail, I thought about it. It’s so much stress, so much pressure, because you just see yourself on the news every day–this, that, and the third, and you’re like, ‘When is this going to come to an end?’”
The Bushwick, Brooklyn-born provocateur was branded a snitch for taking the stand against his Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods Associates he claimed were working against him and plotting to kill him to lessen his potential 47-year sentence.
Tekashi was sentenced to two years in federal prison after cooperating with the feds. Still, He was released in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ordered to serve another four months on home confinement. Lawyers for the “Gummo” rapper argued for his early release because he has chronic asthma which, landed him in a hospital while incarcerated.
“With the asthma and the coronavirus, I caught bronchitis once and two asthma attacks in prison,” he told Fox. “When I caught bronchitis, they sent me to the hospital and the doctor said, ‘What’s going on in that jail? Why is it so cold in that jail?’ I remember, I’m handcuffed … to the bed.”

Tekashi 6ix9ine now travels with eight bodyguards out of concern for his safety. The rapper said he decided to persevere, and, at this time in his life, he’s mentally capable of handling his stressors. “Mentally, God has built me so strong.
You know that saying, ‘What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger?’ So basically, I feel like I’m, not invincible, but I feel like I’m at the peak of my mental state, where I’m like, ‘I’ll be fine,’’ Tekashi 6ix9ine said.
