How to Roll a Joint: A Step-by-Step Guide

Published

How to Roll a Joint

Being able to roll a joint that’s perfect is not a skill that many people possess, even among long-term stoners. It’s not hard to learn this noble skill, but there’s a vast array of methods used in consuming the THC/CBD-rich buds of the marijuana plant.

With elaborate high-tech bongs to ultra-efficient dabbing rigs to choose from, it shouldn’t surprise you to discover that you probably can’t roll a joint using your hands.

Luckily for you, this article will not only help you learn how to roll a joint expertly, but you’ll also gain invaluable insights into this age-old joint-rolling tradition.

Getting the Right Rolling Papers

Regardless of your preferred brand, a single sheet of a standard rolling paper is 68-70mm (2.57inches) in length and 34-36mm (1.4inces) in width. Each sheet from a pack of rolling papers is made from thin, light-weight natural non-wood plant fibers derived from flax, hemp, and straw, and features a narrow strip of gum along one length.

Wikipedia

Using a single sheet of standard rolling paper, you can roll an exquisite joint whose maximum length is 70mm (3.32inches) and with an optimal diameter of 10mm (0.4 inches).

A typical booklet of rolling papers has 3 in 2-64 pure-white rolling sheets, with some brands offering as many as 300 sheets.

Rolling papers don’t have to be boring. You can get translucent ones, uniformly colored, decorated with intricate patterns, and featuring an array of tantalizing scents.

These specialty brands incorporate additional non-toxic ingredients that grant the colors, scents/flavors, and other unique attributes you observe on individual joint-rolling sheets.

However, you do not need to buy special rolling paper to roll a perfect joint of your favorite sticky-icky. Furthermore, various rolling paper alternatives allow you to accomplish this same feat and include emptied-out cigarettes, dry corn husks, and even dry leaves.

We shall restrict this how-to-guide to your everyday rolling paper brands that feature standard-sized rolling sheets for practical reasons.

Preparing Your Buds for Joint Rolling

If you get your cannabis from a registered dispensary, your plastic satchel of weed consists of the marijuana plant’s whole heads. This is because cannabis flowers boast the highest concentration of THC/CBD compared to other parts of the plant, including leaves, stems, and seeds.

Consuming whole heads is not a problem when you plan on using a pipe/chalice or bong to smoke your sticky-icky. However, two notable issues arise when you try to roll a joint using entire cannabis heads:

First, the blunt that you roll must be three to four times as thick as a standard joint to accommodate the large head size of mainstream cannabis Indica and Sativa strains. This feat only requires that you buy special large-size roll paper and demands a high level of skill to realize effectively.

Second, a thick joint wastes a lot of THC/CBD as smoke because the weed not only burns unevenly but does so at low temperatures, which favor incomplete combustion of the plant matter.

Consequently, you need to ensure your weed is fine enough to roll a perfect joint that features up to 0.66 grams of potent cannabis buds.

You have a choice of three routes when it comes to fining down your weed for the ideal hand-rolled joint.

Manual Preparation

You use your fingers to delicately pick apart individual cannabis heads to obtain a small pile of fine-sized flower buds for your joint. The advantage of this approach is that it doesn’t require tools or any level of skill.

However, manually preparing your weed for rolling a joint is not only time consuming but also wastes the THC/CBD residue that sticks to your fingertips.

This sticky residue makes it incredibly hard to roll a perfect joint because your fingers end up sticking to the rolling paper.

Using a Pair of Scissors

You use a pair of small and sharp scissors to snip off individual flower buds from each cannabis head, after which you then cut up large buds into even smaller sizes.

This approach features minimal wastage of THC/CBD-rich residue and does not hinder you from rolling a joint. However, using a pair of scissors to fine down your cannabis buds for a joint roll is still time-consuming.

Using a Purpose-Built Grinder

Weed grinders feature a perforated stainless steel grate that efficiently grinds down whole heads into fine particles via a hand-operated lever.

Using a purpose-built grinder not only saves time but allows you to achieve fine-sized weed for the perfect hand-rolled joint.

Making the Perfect Hand-rolled Blunt

After obtaining a standard pack of rolling paper and finely ground cannabis buds, then you can finally embark on the final stage of rolling your joint.

The steps for achieving a perfect hand-rolled joint are as follows: –

STEP 1: Place the finely ground cannabis buds in a neat pile on a clean, flat, and smooth surface. The surface can be a glass, stainless steel, polished hardwood, granite, or marble tabletop.

The smooth and flat surface ensures you get to roll a joint with every grain of your THC/CBD-rich cannabis buds, especially while making more than one hand-rolled joint.

STEP 2: Extract a single sheet of rolling paper from the booklet with one hand and hold it between your other hand’s forefinger and thumb.

Ensure that the rolling paper’s gummed edge is farthest from you, as this allows you to lick this edge while finishing up your joint.

Furthermore, the center crease of the sheet should suitably align with your thumb, with either half of the sheet lifting slightly on either side of the thumb to form a V-shaped trough.

STEP 3: With your free hand, pinch a small amount of the fine cannabis buds between your forefinger and thumb, and sprinkle the dope length-wise along the V-shaped trough of the rolling paper.

Repeat this step until the trough is two-thirds full to either length-wise edge of the rolling sheet.

At this point, you may consider adding a filter at one end of the joint. This filter ensures you don’t throw away the final bit of your smoked blunt.

STEP 4: Hold the opposite edge of the rolling paper with your other hand between the forefinger and thumb.

Make sure you carefully remove both thumbs from the center crease of the paper to avoid spilling the finely-ground dope from your joint, and the filter as well.

With the center crease of the sheet suitably located over the middle and forefingers, use your free thumbs to bring the two halves of the rolling paper together.

STEP 5: Use both thumbs and forefingers to gently and gradually compact the weed inside the rolling paper towards the center edge. You can use the filter on one end of the blunt as a reference.

Doing so should evenly distribute the finely-ground to along the full length of the rolling sheet’s V-shaped trough.

Having reached this point, you can now begin the actual rolling motions that produce the cylindrical shape of a joint.

STEP 6: Begin by simultaneously moving both forefingers and thumbs slowly in opposite directions. Do this while still compacting the weed in the trough to ensure you retain the cylindrical shape of the joint.

Once you have established the cylinder shape, you need to roll the paper’s non-gummed edge downwards until it aligns with the compacted weed in your joint.

Finalize your hand-rolled joint by ultimately winding the non-gummed edge over the compacted buds and roll the blunt till you reach the gummed edge. Lightly lick the gum on edge and fold it down over the completed roll.

If you’ve reached this final step, then you’ve succeeded at rolling a joint that has just made your very first hand-rolled blunt. Note that you may have to add some buds to the end of the rolled blunt without a filter before twisting the ends to lock in the finely-ground buds.

How Long Does Marijuana Stay in Blood?

How Long Does Marijuana Stay in Blood?

Drugs such as alcohol may disappear from your system in just a few hours, but in comparison, marijuana tends to stay much longer.

Marijuana is usually detectable in body fluids for 1 to 30 days after last use. The amount of weed you consume will determine how long it stays in your blood since the weed detection window depends on how much and how often you consume the drug. For frequent users, cannabis may be detectable several months after the last use. The longest recorded cannabis detection time is more than 90 days.

How Long is Weed Detectable Through Drug Testing?

Drug tests detect the by-products or metabolites of marijuana that remain in your system long after the effects of the  drug have worn off.

These tests can detect THC in blood and urine after days of use and in saliva, just a few hours after use. Because THC is a lipid-soluble chemical, it binds to fat in the body, increasing the length of time it takes for someone to eliminate it.

Blood Testing

Generally, weed is detectable in blood for 1 to 2 days, but in some cases, it’s been detected after 25 days from the last day of use. Frequent and heavy use of the drug can increase the length and time in which it can be identified.

Marijuana can be detectable in the bloodstream within seconds after inhalation. It is distributed into the body tissues and some of it is reabsorbed in the blood then broken down whereby the cannabis metabolites may remain for days.

Marijuana blood tests are suitable in indicating recent use of the drug.

Urine Testing

In urine, weed is detectable for the following amounts of time after last use:

  • For occasional users who may consume for up to three times a week : 3 days
  • Moderate users consuming four times a week: 5 to 7 days
  • Chronic users consuming the drug daily: 10 to 15 days
  • Chronic heavy users are consuming multiple times a day: more than 30 days

Urine testing is the most common method of drug testing.

What Factors Can Influence Detection

The amount of time in which cannabis stays in your blood depends on various different  factors. Such factors include:

1. Sensitivity Of The Drug Test

Sensitive drug tests can detect even the lowest doses of marijuana. The tests include blood, urine, and hair.

2. THC Dose

The amount of THC consumed is a significant factor in detecting marijuana in a person’s bloodstream. THC effects are cumulative; therefore, someone who has smoked several times for several days has a higher THC content and is more likely to test positive than someone who smoked once.

3. Amount Of Body Fat

Since cannabis metabolites are stored in body fat, persons with higher body fat concentrations may metabolize marijuana more slowly than those with less body fat.

Also Read:   Does Holding Your Breath When You Smoke Cannabis Really Make You Higher?

4. Hydration

Dehydration increases concentrations of THC in the body. Drinking significant amounts of water may prevent a drug test from showing notably high THC concentrations.

5. Metabolism

People with faster metabolisms typically eliminate THC from their bodies much quicker than those with slower metabolisms.

How Can Marijuana Get Out of the Body Faster

Marijuana stays in your system anywhere from several days to several months, and there isn’t much you can do to speed up the time it takes to leave your system. Your body requires time to break down the THC; staying hydrated, eating healthy, and exercising may help accelerate the process.

The sole most important factor in avoiding detection lies in the time between the last exposure and the time of testing.

Does Cannabis Prevent or Kill the Coronavirus?

Does Cannabis Prevent or Kill the Coronavirus

Weed is known for its various healing aspects, that’s why it’s not surprising for most cannabis affluents to ask the question, does weed kill coronavirus?

There are no recorded studies about research tests conducted between cannabinoids and the coronavirus. From the known traits of cannabis, we know that weed may have medical properties that might harm or help someone battling or trying to prevent the virus. However, smoking cannabis is more likely to increase your risk of contracting Covid-19 only because smoking makes your lungs more vulnerable to infection.

Dr. Donald Tashkin is a UCLA professor with extensive experience in studying the effects of smoking on the lungs. Dr. Tashkin formerly discovered that smoking weed may temporarily increase the symptoms of bronchitis, including coughing, inflammation in the lungs, and phlegm production. Although the effects were much less compared to those found for tobacco, Tashkin insists that smoking anything increases risk.

Doctors generally recommend avoiding any kind of smoking during this pandemic outbreak. And because Covid-19 deaths are caused by respiratory cases, the best option would be to avoid cannabis smoking as well.

But if you are a patient who needs to use cannabis for various treatments, don’t panic. You can find other ways to consume the drug, be it sublingually through tinctures or by consuming edibles.

How Can Weed Assist with Coronavirus?

Cannabis is known to numb inflammation and help with pain; on the other hand, it can also dampen the immune system’s response to a new infection. The immunosuppressive qualities of weed come from the fact that it reduces inflammation. This suppressive property is very useful in fighting viruses that use inflammation to replicate. However, it is not clear from the research available whether these immune effects would be helpful or harmful for coronavirus.

Cannabis has a known ability to reduce certain comorbidities of the coronavirus. Coronavirus can be complicated by conditions such as diabetes and obesity, and cannabis is known to reduce incidents of both. Weed also helps patients reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, which can complicate coronavirus. Cannabis may help curb the effects of other illnesses and conditions that may put you at greater risk of contracting the virus, but that does not necessarily mean that smoking weed will prevent or kill the virus.

Although there may be no indication of the drug’s ability to cure coronavirus, cannabis has been proven to have disease-prevention qualities that show potential in helping rather than harming the advancement of coronavirus; this is because of the drug’s ability to dampen inflammation. According to researchers, a significant number of severe cases of the late stages of Covid-19 is an overactive immune response called a cytokine storm. These storms cause such extensive inflammations damaging the host’s own body, which leads to death.

What Can be Done?

Scientists are looking at a class of drugs called IL-6 cytokine inhibitors. The drugs which are currently on the market have severe side effects. On the other hand, both CBD and THC have demonstrated abilities to inhibit IL-6, indicating that they could be able to help bring down cytokine storms.

However, researchers still caution that it may be too early to assume cannabis as a treatment.

“We know that cannabis has profound anti-inflammatory action, but we don’t fully understand how to harness that, especially when it comes to treating this specific illness,” says cannabis researcher Dr. Sue Sisley.

Final Words

Further research on the anti-inflammatory effects of weed is necessary for both the cannabis flower and root; both of which have similarly been used to decrease inflammatory effects. Engage us on the comment section on what your thoughts are when it comes to corona and weed.

Weed and Mushrooms: How Do They Interact?

Weed and Mushrooms: How Do They Interact

Psilocybin-producing mushrooms have become increasingly accessible and popular, and this may be largely contributed by Oregon’s historic act; where it became the first state to legalize Psilocybin mushrooms for therapeutic use. And with the recent rising demand for weed, it may be vital to understand these drugs’ effects, both alone and with each other.

It’s not unusual to find weed consumers who also use psychoactive shrooms. According to a 2006 study, 60% of all the 149 surveyed students co-administered weed and mushrooms.

Although the two drugs share some similarities, using each substance on its own gives a uniquely different experience. Some may feel more productive after consuming marijuana, while others might feel more relaxed. In comparison, mushrooms are hallucinogenic, since most of the psychoactive mushrooms contain the psychedelic component psilocybin. Just like weed, mushrooms alter one’s sensory perception, only that the effects are way more intense.

What Effects do Mushrooms Provide?

Mushrooms are usually dried, then eaten, made into tea, or ground to powder to be placed in capsules. It takes 1 hour or more for its effects to kick in, after which it may last for 4 to 6 hours.

People often think shrooms open up their minds to creativity; the effects are mostly the opposite of this expectation. A 2012 study suggests that psilocybin decreases brain activity in areas responsible for restraining your experience of the world and keeping it organized. A person’s perception of the world dramatically shifts once this process slows down.

Because of this:

  • Objects may appear to move or melt
  • A person’s perception of time changes
  • One might appear deeply distorted

For some, the effects may cause spiritual epiphanies and cognitive breakthroughs, while for others, it can cause fear or discomfort

Other effects of Mushrooms include:

  • Euphoria
  • Anxiety
  • Altered body temperature
  • Numbness, especially in the face
  • Increased heart rate
  • Muscle twitching
Also Read:   Does Holding Your Breath When You Smoke Cannabis Really Make You Higher?

Some people experience nausea and vomiting.

How Do Mushrooms Interact with CBD & THC?

Reports suggest that combining shrooms with CBD-rich weed strains may reduce the feelings of nausea and anxiety caused by shrooms for some people.

While the combination of THC-rich strains with shrooms can increase the intensity of the effects, it may lead to more intriguing and intense auditory and visual hallucinations and confusing thought patterns.

The intensity can be uncomfortable, especially for new users with no experience with shrooms. The trick to letting the weed help with nausea or anxiety caused by shrooms is to consume it before using the shrooms to help prepare your body for the effects.

Cannabis can intensify the mushroom effects when used 1 hour after the time the mushroom was consumed, while it can slightly prolong the mushrooms’ effects when used 3-4 hours after initial shroom consumption and help contextualize the whole experience.

What are the Potential Risks of Using Mushrooms and Weed?

A bad reaction may often involve anxiety and paranoia, which may be made worse with the hallucinations. Although their interaction has not been studied much, combining cannabis and shrooms doesn’t appear to pose any serious health risks. The biggest concern is having a questionably uncomfortable time, which may not be good for the state of mind.

How to Handle a Bad Reaction form Using Mushrooms and Weed

A sober friend’s presence may be enough to help manage the effects by calming down the affected person and offering reassurance. Removing mirrors from the setting may lessen the chances of having alarming hallucinations. Eating and drinking may also help reduce the intensity of the effects.

The combined use of weed and mushrooms might increase creativity and ingenuity, but it can be intense for others, causing paranoia, worsening mental health symptoms.

  • The potential earnings
  • The risks
  • Your competition

Step 1: Decide the Type of Marijuana Business to Start

The first step would be to choose the kind of marijuana business you want to start; it could be opening a dispensary, growing cannabis, providing weed, or all of the above. Because marijuana laws vary from state to state, you will need to research and understand the rules around where you intend to sell. It helps to speak to a few people who have started cannabis businesses of their own.

Step 2: Write a Business Plan

Your business plan will need to be a bit more detailed than a regular business plan. You have to ensure that your plan follows every law in your state, from location to suppliers, to your targeted consumers. It should state whether the marijuana being sold is for medical, recreational use, or both. Having legal counsel will help you keep everything in order.

Step 3: Register Your Business Name and Entity

Your business is likely to be local since marijuana has not been legalized on national level; thus, interstate sale of cannabis is prohibited. The business entity you choose will determine the taxes you pay and the level of risk you are exposed to. You may choose to open your business as a limited liability company (LLC) or a corporation. Both entities will shield you from personal liability.

Additionally, you need to choose a name for your business. Conduct a search to ensure the name you chose is available. You’ll be required to pay a small fee for reserving that name for a specific amount of time. All this has to be done before registering your marijuana business because you’ll need this information while doing so.

Step 4: Register Your Marijuana Business and Obtain Licenses and Permits

You will require permits and registration depending on where you intend to open your business. Find out all the documentation you require to register your business. You can use FindLaw; it provides resources for information on specific permits and licenses needed by marijuana businesses in every state.

Step 5: Register to Pay Taxes

You should apply for an Employer Identification Number. This can be done online or directly through the IRS and usually gets speedy approvals. The EIN will be necessary for applying for funding.

Step 6: Get Funding

Marijuana businesses have minimal financing options. Most of the best banks for potential business funding operate on the federal scale and abode by which deters them from lending to marijuana businesses. However, there are a few funding sources for cannabis businesses, including Angel Investors, crowdfunding, and cannabis incubators

Final Word

Starting a cannabis business can be expensive and challenging. The best you can do before starting a cannabusiness is to pre-plan everything properly and ensure you are well funded. This will in turn make things so easy for you in terms of getting all that is required; from licensing, getting vendors, getting a shop and all that is needeed/
