New Mix: Bringing Hemp into Home Baking

A Philadelphia-based company named Baking Innovation has developed Hemp N’ Seeds, a simple French bread mix for home bakers. The owner of this enterprise Richard Charpentier, asserts that the first commercial production will be available early in 2021.

The mixture makes bread containing 5 grams of protein,19 grams of whole grains per slice, along with 14 grams of fiber. Included in the mixture are hemp seeds and hemp protein, which are both regarded by the US Food and Drug Administration as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS)

“Hemp seeds or hemp hearts are seeds that have been hulled or shelled while hemp protein is the powder form of hemp seeds,” said Mr. Charpentier, who is a certified master baker (CMB). Mr. Charpentier had previously worked for companies including Hostess Brands and Flowers Foods, Inc.

Apart from the hemp seeds, the mix contains sesame seeds, flaxseeds, and sunflower seeds. Flaxseeds are a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), while Sesame seeds are a source of several healthy nutrients including, lignans, dietary fiber, antioxidants, protein, and vitamins. Sunflower seeds are a source of essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they deliver vitamin E and vitamin B to the body. Barley brings out a sweet malt tone, when comes to taste.

Contained in the mix also is wheat flour and barley. Wheat flour contains essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, bran, and germ. On the other hand, whole barley contains high levels of antioxidants as well as minerals and vitamins which deliver gratifying benefits.

Speaking about these two components, Mr. Charpentier said, “Both are rich in vitamins and minerals as well as dietary fiber and improve digestive health. Whole barley has a unique functional ability for high water absorption while whole wheat provides the necessary gluten to allow the breads to rise.”

How to Start Your Own Cannabusiness

If you are thinking of starting a business, you might as well go for one industry with the most promising growth potential; cannabusiness should be your top pick. With cannabis decriminalized, the demand for marijuana is high.

The regulatory environment in the cannabis industry is like no other. A lot of vigilance needs to be put into practice before starting a cannabis business.  In this article we are going to list some quick steps on how you can start your cannabusiness.

How Does the Marijuana Industry Currently Look?

Identifying the industry landscape is the first thing you need to do. This means identifying:

  • The potential earnings
  • The risks
  • Your competition

Evaluate the demand for weed in the area you want to start your business and observe what you can do differently to set yourself apart from the competition.

How to Start a Cannabis Business in 6 Steps

A significant amount of work is required to start any business. Below are 6 steps to help guide you through the process:

Step 1: Decide the Type of Marijuana Business to Start

The first step would be to choose the kind of marijuana business you want to start; it could be opening a dispensary, growing cannabis, providing weed, or all of the above. Because marijuana laws vary from state to state, you will need to research and understand the rules around where you intend to sell. It helps to speak to a few people who have started cannabis businesses of their own.

Step 2: Write a Business Plan

Your business plan will need to be a bit more detailed than a regular business plan. You have to ensure that your plan follows every law in your state, from location to suppliers, to your targeted consumers. It should state whether the marijuana being sold is for medical, recreational use, or both. Having legal counsel will help you keep everything in order.

Step 3: Register Your Business Name and Entity

Your business is likely to be local since marijuana has not been legalized on national level; thus, interstate sale of cannabis is prohibited. The business entity you choose will determine the taxes you pay and the level of risk you are exposed to. You may choose to open your business as a limited liability company (LLC) or a corporation. Both entities will shield you from personal liability.

Additionally, you need to choose a name for your business. Conduct a search to ensure the name you chose is available. You’ll be required to pay a small fee for reserving that name for a specific amount of time. All this has to be done before registering your marijuana business because you’ll need this information while doing so.

Step 4: Register Your Marijuana Business and Obtain Licenses and Permits

You will require permits and registration depending on where you intend to open your business. Find out all the documentation you require to register your business. You can use FindLaw; it provides resources for information on specific permits and licenses needed by marijuana businesses in every state.

Step 5: Register to Pay Taxes

You should apply for an Employer Identification Number. This can be done online or directly through the IRS and usually gets speedy approvals. The EIN will be necessary for applying for funding.

Step 6: Get Funding

Marijuana businesses have minimal financing options. Most of the best banks for potential business funding operate on the federal scale and abode by which deters them from lending to marijuana businesses. However, there are a few funding sources for cannabis businesses, including Angel Investors, crowdfunding, and cannabis incubators

Final Word

Starting a cannabis business can be expensive and challenging. The best you can do before starting a cannabusiness is to pre-plan everything properly and ensure you are well funded. This will in turn make things so easy for you in terms of getting all that is required; from licensing, getting vendors, getting a shop and all that is needeed/

Smoking Marijuana Can Expose You to Toxic Chemicals Found in Tobacco

Who knew that smoking marijuana could expose you to the same toxins that are found in tobacco? Not me for sure. A new study that was conducted has discovered that smoking weed may expose you to toxic chemicals associated with neurological damage, cancer, and other serious health problems.

“Marijuana use is on the rise in the United States with a growing number of states legalizing it for medical and non-medical purposes – including five additional states in the 2020 election. The increase has renewed concerns about the potential health effects of marijuana smoke, which is known to contain some of the same toxic combustion products found in tobacco smoke,”

said Dr. Daana Gabuzda. Daana is the principal investigator in cancer immunology and virology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute In Boston.

The research presented data from 245 HIV-negative and HIV-positive  participants. The study chose people with HIV infection because a large number of this population smokes tobacco and marijuana.

Urine and blood samples were then taken from the participants to compare various chemicals produced by the breakdown of nicotine or those produced by the combustion of tobacco and marijuana.

Weed smokers, just like tobacco smokers, had naphthalene, acrylamide, and acrylonitrile in their blood and urine samples. Acrylonitrile and acrylamide have been linked to health issues such as cancer, while naphthalene is associated with neurological damage, anemia, and liver damage.

Thailand's First Cannabis-Cooking Cafe Opens

Just a couple of hours outside Bangkok, a cafe has embraced cannabis-based wellness. Ban Lao Reung (Storytelling House) which is in Pranchinburi city, has updated its menu with cannabis dishes.

Apart from cannabis dishes, the restaurant housed in a 71-year-old residence will also provide weed-infused drinks and pot pizza. The restaurant is next to Asia’s first medical marijuana clinic, Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, from which it gets its marijuana.

Medical marijuana was legalized in February 2019. The recent legalization allows only for government-approved facilities to sell marijuana products. The new Marijuana-cooking cafe can, therefore only get cannabis products from the hospital near it.

The restaurant currently which only offers good mood pizza, deep-fried weed leaves served with spicy mango salad and sparkling passion fruit mixed with weed juice plans on launching more products in the future.

In case you are planning on visiting the restaurant, worry not, you will not need a designated driver after consuming the dishes. Unless you consume the food in great quantities, the level of THC will only leave you smiling and feeling good.

Don’t forget to add this restaurant to your travel wishlist.

New York is Set to Legalize Weed and Betting in 2021

While speaking during his annual State of the State address on Monday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo pledged to legalize adult marijuana use and mobile betting in his state.

While speaking before a small group of in-person attendees, the governor said legalization of both proposals would increase New York’s revenue.

In case marijuana legalization passes, New York will be part of the fifteen other states that have legalized weed, including its neighboring states, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Legalization of recreational weed, which has been stalled since 2019, is likely to be approved by lawmakers this year due to the state’s fiscal woes. The state currently only allows for the medicinal use of marijuana.

Cuomo predicts legalization of weed will bring the state revenue of about $300 million yearly when fully operational. However, the set up will take several years before it is fully functional.

Legalization of weed in the state would also end “the over-criminalization of this product (weed) that has left so many communities of color over-policed and over incarcerated.”
