Step 1: Decide the Type of Marijuana Business to Start

The first step would be to choose the kind of marijuana business you want to start; it could be opening a dispensary, growing cannabis, providing weed, or all of the above. Because marijuana laws vary from state to state, you will need to research and understand the rules around where you intend to sell. It helps to speak to a few people who have started cannabis businesses of their own.

Step 2: Write a Business Plan

Your business plan will need to be a bit more detailed than a regular business plan. You have to ensure that your plan follows every law in your state, from location to suppliers, to your targeted consumers. It should state whether the marijuana being sold is for medical, recreational use, or both. Having legal counsel will help you keep everything in order.

Step 3: Register Your Business Name and Entity

Your business is likely to be local since marijuana has not been legalized on national level; thus, interstate sale of cannabis is prohibited. The business entity you choose will determine the taxes you pay and the level of risk you are exposed to. You may choose to open your business as a limited liability company (LLC) or a corporation. Both entities will shield you from personal liability.

Smoking Marijuana Can Expose You to Toxic Chemicals Found in Tobacco

Who knew that smoking marijuana could expose you to the same toxins that are found in tobacco? Not me for sure. A new study that was conducted has discovered that smoking weed may expose you to toxic chemicals associated with neurological damage, cancer, and other serious health problems.

“Marijuana use is on the rise in the United States with a growing number of states legalizing it for medical and non-medical purposes – including five additional states in the 2020 election. The increase has renewed concerns about the potential health effects of marijuana smoke, which is known to contain some of the same toxic combustion products found in tobacco smoke,”

said Dr. Daana Gabuzda. Daana is the principal investigator in cancer immunology and virology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute In Boston.

The research presented data from 245 HIV-negative and HIV-positive  participants. The study chose people with HIV infection because a large number of this population smokes tobacco and marijuana.

Urine and blood samples were then taken from the participants to compare various chemicals produced by the breakdown of nicotine or those produced by the combustion of tobacco and marijuana.

Weed smokers, just like tobacco smokers, had naphthalene, acrylamide, and acrylonitrile in their blood and urine samples. Acrylonitrile and acrylamide have been linked to health issues such as cancer, while naphthalene is associated with neurological damage, anemia, and liver damage.

While speaking during his annual State of the State address on Monday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo pledged to legalize adult marijuana use and mobile betting in his state.

While speaking before a small group of in-person attendees, the governor said legalization of both proposals would increase New York’s revenue.

In case marijuana legalization passes, New York will be part of the fifteen other states that have legalized weed, including its neighboring states, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Legalization of recreational weed, which has been stalled since 2019, is likely to be approved by lawmakers this year due to the state’s fiscal woes. The state currently only allows for the medicinal use of marijuana.

Cuomo predicts legalization of weed will bring the state revenue of about $300 million yearly when fully operational. However, the set up will take several years before it is fully functional.

Legalization of weed in the state would also end “the over-criminalization of this product (weed) that has left so many communities of color over-policed and over incarcerated.”
