A recent study by the University of Lausanne in Switzerland revealed that long-term use of marijuana might cause temporary verbal impairment. Have you ever tried to say something when high but then forgot what you were about to say? Well, this may be caused by prolonged cannabis use. A regular cannabis smoker is more likely to forget more words than someone who doesn’t smoke.

Cannabis has its fair share of positive effects. Apart from recreational uses, it is also used for medicinal purposes and is an effective treatment for a variety of health issues. Marijuana offers less insulin resistance, therefore regulating blood sugar levels for someone with diabetes, and can lower cholesterol, which would otherwise cause heart disease or stroke. Regular cannabis users have been found to have lower overall cholesterol. Cannabis is known as a treatment for chronic pain and inflammation. It also leads to less anxiety and stress.

Despite all the above benefits, cannabis can also provide adverse effects if used daily.

What are the Effects of Smoking Weed Everyday?

  1. You Could Develop Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD)

According to medical resources, long-term marijuana use can cause ironclad tolerance to cannabis, meaning for you to feel the same euphoric sensations, you have to consume increasing amounts of weed every day. After prolonged weed consumption, you develop a tolerance such that consuming small doses would not make you feel the same effects anymore.

  1. It Can affect Response and Coordination

The coordination and response time for a regular weed user can be adversely affected since weed slows down the brain’s ability to process information.

  1. May Lead to Respiratory Issues

Although weed has less impact on the respiratory system than tobacco, some long-term smokers sometimes end up with issues such as chronic cough and excess mucus production. However, you can improve these symptoms just by refraining from smoking for a while.

  1. It Can Increase Your Cardiovascular Risk

Cannabis is known to increase heart rate and elevate blood pressure, which could be dangerous to people with heart disease. It may also aggravate pre-existing heart conditions for long-term users.

  1. It Can Cause Memory Loss

Long term marijuana use temporarily prevents the brain from learning new things and developing new memories; this causes impairment to short-term memory. It can end up decreasing a person’s performance in memory-related activities since it leads to a decrease in interest and motivation to participate in everyday tasks.

10 Cannabis Strains That Won't Make You Hungry

While appetite stimulation may be exciting for people dealing with depression, appetite loss, gastrointestinal disorders, and cancer, not everyone is necessarily comfortable with the rowdy food lust that comes with using cannabis.

Some people even avoid using cannabis because of this one side effect; ‘the munchies’. Some users who may be struggling with pre-existing weight and eating issues may find the appetite stimulation to be a disadvantage.

The element responsible for providing you with this appetite is THC. On the other hand, similar to THC, is another cannabinoid known as a THCV that, rather than stimulate hunger, suppresses one’s appetite. The majority of strains available usually contain around 10-20% of THC, while THCV content tends only to reach 5%.

Research suggests that THCV is more abundant in sativa strains, therefore sativa tends to provoke less hunger than indica strains because THCV affects the reward centers in the brain associated with the pleasure of eating food, making eating less desirable thus suppressing appetite.
